You take 30 years worth of music ... a 20 year vision for an album .... 3 1/2 years of production .... an internet collaboration among seasoned musicians, who until this day, have still not met in person ... and you mix in incredible performances, highly melodic tunes atop ambitious musical underpinnings, soaring vocals, and deep-as-you-want-to-run-with-it messages .... make the whole thing a semi-auto-biographical "story album" ... and in the end, you deliver a monumental album that defies the standard fare, yet is consumately musical, undeniably attention grabbing, and still oozes rock attitude ... then, you've described the Matson Music Box.
Stylistically, MMB is reminiscent of 70s & 80s flavored, prog-rock. But while influenced by groups such as Pink Floyd, Yes, Deep Purple, Kansas, and ELP, MMB music is
unquestionably unique featuring bold chord progressions lying beneath instrumentation that ranges from artfully tasteful to technically brilliant ... all, as noted, all while putting intricate melodies and vocal harmonies front and center.
So now, we try to make something happen ... daunting in today's world of countless songs coming from every direction, hundreds of music sources, diminishing CD sales, and a general climate of disposable music. But that's where this “Perfect World” album and MMB can stand apart.
For you ... the listener ... the fan ... the curious ... we hope you'll choose to experience our work as it was intended ... as an ALBUM and not just a collection of songs thrown together to fill up a plastic disc. Put on the headphones, turn out the lights, lay in the floor, close your eyes, and
listen to it like music was meant to be listened to ...
Thanks for being here ...
